Tate Modern is a space for everyone to enjoy art. To protect the collection and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors, we ask that you follow a few simple rules. Key Guidelines

What you need to know before you arrive.

Bag Policy

Only bags smaller than cabin bag size (55 x 40 x 20 cm) are allowed in the galleries. There are no facilities for large luggage. All bags are subject to search upon entry.

Photography

You are welcome to take photos for personal use, but the use of flash, tripods, and selfie sticks is not allowed. Photography may be restricted in some special exhibitions.

In the Galleries

Please do not touch the artworks. Food and drink are not permitted in the galleries. Smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere inside the building.

Sketching

Sketching with pencils is encouraged. However, the use of charcoal, pastels, markers, and paints is not permitted in the galleries.

Common questions about our policies.

Can I bring a water bottle?
Yes, you can bring a water bottle, but it must be kept inside your bag while in the gallery spaces. Drinking is only permitted in designated café areas.
Are pushchairs/buggies allowed?
Yes, pushchairs are welcome throughout the gallery. All entrances are accessible.
Can I bring my scooter or folding bike inside?
Non-electric folding bikes and scooters must be stored in the lockers on Level 0. Electric versions are not permitted in the building at all.
Is there a dress code?
There is no formal dress code. We just ask that visitors wear attire appropriate for a public, family-friendly environment.
